katie-back

March 29 from 12:30 to 2:45, I will be hosting a free Alexander Technique Workshop specifically for teen and adult wind instrument players led by Katie Back. I have worked with Katie in the past with very helpful results both for my playing and overall freedom of movement, and highly recommend Alexander Technique, and Katie’s work, to all musicians!

This workshop will take place at my flute studio – 18 Langdon Street, Suite #4, Montpelier, VT – above Onion River Sports and below the Contemporary Dance Studio. Enrollment is limited to 8 teen or adult wind instrument players (some vocalists may be included) – so advance registration is required and early registration is strongly recommended!

To register, simply pop an email to me: lisa@lisaflute.com.

I will paste below Katie’s course description. For additional information about Katie’s experience and approach and the Alexander Technique in general, please go to Katie’s web site: http://balanceofbeing.com .

Here’s Katie’s description:

A Workshop for Wind Players: Improving Performance/Preventing Injury Using the Alexander Technique with Katie Back

Do you love playing a wind instrument?
Would you like to experience more ease and fluidity in your body while playing and improve your
performance?

The Alexander Technique is a psycho-physical method of re-education that teaches us how to move more
efficiently, with less strain and effort so that we can perform our best. For over 100 years, musicians have
benefited from studying this technique in order to improve their coordination, develop a refined level of
kinesthetic awareness necessary for playing, and undo unnecessary tension while practicing and
performing. We all have movement habits that can unconsciously dictate how we move, some of these
habits can interfere with our natural abilities. The Alexander Technique is unique in its approach because
it teaches us to

become aware of how we use our bodies in activity and helps us to rediscover a way of
moving within us that is natural, so that we can play our best and reach our fullest potential doing what
we love.
This workshop will focus on the finding finding proper support in our bodies while learning to release
unnecessary tension so that we can experience ease and freedom in playing.
