Tone quality, dynamic variation, and other elements of sound will otherwise be considered &#8220;background noise&#8221; in the context of Zoom&#8217;s more common priority &#8211; speech. <a href=\"https:\/\/lisaflute.com\/fluteblog\/index.php\/2020\/09\/13\/updated-zoom-settings\/\">(September 13, 2020 update: you may wish to check my blog entry with updated settings info here).\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">(Quick list, September 13 update: 1)\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Once updated, go to Audio settings; 2)\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">UNcheck Automatically adjust microphone settings; 3)\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Set &#8220;Suppress background noise&#8221; to low; 4)\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Click &#8220;Advanced&#8221;; 5)\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Check the box to &#8220;Enable Original Sound&#8221;; 6)\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Check the box for &#8220;Hi fidelity music mode&#8221;; 7) I<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">F you have external mic and headphones, consider checking &#8220;Disable echo cancellation&#8221; Note that the section below refers to versions prior to 5.2. Additional info below the short list may be helpful if you&#8217;re not, and here&#8217;s the <a href=\"https:\/\/lisaflute.com\/fluteblog\/?p=3742&amp;et_fb=1&amp;PageSpeed=off\">updated version with photos &#8211; including iPad settings<\/a>)<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Before your Zoom lesson, you&#8217;ll want to do the following &#8211; described in detail below and with photos &#8211; but here&#8217;s a quick check list (9\/13 update: mostly for older versions of Zoom prior to 5.2, but you may wish to check it over):<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Adjust your audio settings:\n<ul>\n<li>Disable &#8220;Automatically adjust volume&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>In advanced audio tab:\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Enable Original Sound&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Disable &#8220;Suppress Persistent Background Noise&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Disable &#8220;Suppress Intermittent Background Noise&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Check the bulleted list near the bottom of the page for preparing your computer<\/li>\n<li>Read the blog post<a href=\"https:\/\/lisaflute.com\/fluteblog\/index.php\/2015\/02\/24\/preparing-for-your-online-flute-lesson-2\/\"> &#8220;Preparing for Your Online Flute Lesson&#8221;<\/a> for additional thoughts<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=&#8221;1_3,2_3&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.7&#8243;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_3&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.7&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.7&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>There are two places you can access settings &#8211; on the web (as in the first photo) and on the downloaded Zoom, as in the second photo, if you have a device that is able to download Zoom.<\/p>\n<p>If you are having a Zoom flute lesson on a PC, or other device that allows you to download, you&#8217;ll want to download Zoom so that you can access audio settings prior to your lesson.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.7&#8243; custom_margin=&#8221;40px||||false|false&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Next, you&#8217;ll want to open the settings &#8211; see the purple arrow by the gear icon in the upper right of the photo below.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.7&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>Once you click on the &#8220;Settings&#8221; gear, you&#8217;ll see the full options below. option next to both &#8220;Supress Persistent Background Noise&#8221; and &#8220;Suppress Intermittent Background Noise.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;3_4&#8243; or better yet, just plan to not use the computer in between the restart and the<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"il\">lesson<\/span><\/li>\n<li>if you&#8217;re on a laptop, plug into the ethernet directly if possible<\/li>\n<li>make sure no one else in the house is using the internet at the same time<\/li>\n<li>make sure you click the box in the top left labeled &#8220;Turn on Original Sound&#8221; before you start &#8211; in the upper left corner of the screen &#8211; see photos below<\/li>\n<li>If you have good headphones, that can help improve your listening quality; likewise a separate mic can help &#8211; but I know most people don&#8217;t have one &#8211; so no worries\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=&#8221;1_3,1_3,1_3&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.7&#8243;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_3&#8243;
