Here are some pictures from last Friday’s musical “soiree”, again at the home of Christine Rousseau and her husband Lee.<\/p>\n

Lee had put up lanterns lighting the path to their home – a lovely pathway to begin a lovely evening!<\/p>\n

Sandra opted for our duet to be first on the performance list – oboe players with their persnickety reeds need to be allowed priority in these matters!<\/p>\n

We played a few movements from William Grant Still’s “Miniatures” for flute, oboe and piano –<\/p>\n

“I Ride an Old Paint,” “Adolorido,” and “A Frog Went\u00a0 A-Courtin’ “<\/p>\n

Sweet little set of arrangement of folk tunes, to start the evening on a light and relaxed note.<\/p>\n

The day before the soiree, I was touched to receive an email from George – he was looking for pictures from last year’s soiree to be included in a slide presentation he was doing Friday afternoon: “Better Not Bigger” – about what really makes us happy, including music. George volunteered to play first among the students for the evening, breaking the ice and getting the evening rolling and off to a great start!<\/p>\n

The evening’s performance ended with a whole group event. We played a three part arrangement of Beethoven’s “Turkish March” followed by some jazzy blues. Sandra and I had decided that last year’s ending with Mary Alice Amidon’s “Joy Shall Come in the Morning” – a contemporary hymn – would be great as a traditional ending for the evening’s performance, so as of last Friday, that has become our official Musical Soiree finale – now including harmony Sandra has transposed for clarinet.<\/p>\n
