Everyone is welcome to attend this repeat presentation of the September workshop for parents – or anyone who plays a role in the life of a young musician or potential future musician! This presentation will be in my hometown of Middlesex, at the Rumney Memorial Elementary School on Shady Rill.
Presentation topics will include:
- a look at the cultural context of practicing a musical instrument
- defining and contrasting “intrinsic” and “extrinsic” motivation
- nurturing intrinsic motivation
- appropriate uses of extrinsic motivation
- recent research regarding the significance of balance between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation
- the significance of routine
- a realistic look at the challenges and potential benefits of helping kids develop joyful and productive practice routines in our culture
- Q&A during and following presentation
- informal conversation following the presentation
This is Lisa’s second presentation of this format. As mentioned on the flier above, Marianne Mullen, an attendee/parent from the first workshop at Proud Flower in Waterbury on September 29, stated the following:
“I attended Lisa Carlson’s workshop on Joyful Music Success for children and I’m so glad I did. I learned a lot about how to get my child to practice and want to practice without me nagging. I highly recommend if you get the opportunity to attend this workshop (regardless of instrument your child plays), that you do so!”
