About Us

Greetings! I, Lisa Carlson, am a flutist, a flute teacher, a wife of a wonderful and supportive guy since 1989, and a mom of two young adult daughters, both excellent musicians, as you can hear for yourself on my YouTube videos! Our home is shared by two cats, Millie and Harriet, and I enjoy great friendships with all the neighborhood dogs (as well as their people). I was born in Sharon, Vermont, and have lived most of my life in Vermont, and can’t imagine choosing to live anywhere else! I started teaching private lessons and performed at my first weddings in 1985, shortly after graduating from Oberlin College, , and currently teach flute at Monteverdi Music School in Montpelier, Upper Valley Music Center, as well as via Skype from my Middlesex home. In addition to music, I enjoy the great outdoors, including backpacking, having hiked most of the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada (about 2,000 miles) in 1985 (with my piccolo!), about 1,000 miles of the Appalachian Trail in 1983, and in the summer of 2015 my daughter Mariah and I hiked Vermont’s length on the Long Trail, from Massachussetts to Canada. I also enjoy canoeing, running, walking, and generally puttering around outside when time allows. Teaching private lessons and ensembles is one of the greatest joys of my life. Watching the growth that happens as students of all ages, levels, interests and personalities, develop musically, and in so many other ways, through the study of flute, while delving deeply into great music, still leaves me more energized at the end of a teaching day than I was when I started!
