One of my kids’ favorite practice games when they were little was “stuffed animals going to  a party.” I highly recommend this practice game for ages 3 to 8 or so.stuffedanimalsparty1resized

A selection of favorite animals lines up at the bottom of a sequence of chairs, stools, or other objects of varying levels, patiently waiting their turn to begin the journey to the party on the table.

Whatever the task of the day was (some very small tricky portion of a piece or concept they were working on for their lesson), each time it was done well, one animal would proceed up to the next level, enthusiastically hopping up the step, usually making some strange variation of animal noise. In the pictures here, each animal would take four steps to get to the party spot.

Depending on what you think is a reasonable number of repetitions for your child, you could have fewer or more steps, fewer or more animals, etc. Continue on as long as you feel your child is making progress and as long as you’re both enjoying the game! Or until all the animals have made it to the party – you can name the goal ahead or not, depending on your perception of what would work best for your child.
